This term, eighteen Year 7 and 9 students impressed the judges when representing the College in the Creative Edge Challenge at Curtin University. With a focus on 21st Century skills, this innovative educational competition exposes students to motivating challenges which aim to develop both critical and creative thinking skills.
Students' Accounts:
On Saturday, I journeyed to Curtin University for my first ever Creative Edge competition, which was absolutely amazing. Can you believe I got lost over there? Really! Before coming to Concept Café, I got lost amongst the various places in the university because it was so gigantic.
In the Impromptu Challenge we were presented with an abstract picture. We had to discuss the image in order to explain what was happening. This task demanded that we showcase our creativity and our ability to think under pressure. Then we started our main challenge, which focused on Literature and Communication. Our group did a Greek-themed play because we have been learning about Greek theatre in Drama. We had a large audience and they were engaged in our performance.
My Creative Edge Challenge was an amazing first experience and I hope I can go again next year.
~ Yuvika Singh, Year 7
I think my group did very well with our Creative Edge performance and overall we had a positive experience. I do think, however, that we could have been more organised, especially at the start when we were finding people for our group. When we eventually did find the right amount of people, things went well. We all got along blissfully: being in the same friendship group helped.
There were some parts that I wanted to add into the script – being more organised will help with this. Overall, this year's creative edge was fun and much, much better than other years because we have learnt from our experiences. I plan on improving next year too if I'm given the chance.
