100 Days of Prep

It's hard to believe we've already reached this amazing milestone! From the first day jitters to mastering new skills, our little learners have come such a long way.

Here’s to:

  • 100 days of learning, growing, and making new friends
  • 100 days of creativity and imagination
  • 100 days of reading stories and sharing laughs
  • 100 days of building strong foundations for the future

Let’s keep the excitement going as we look forward to more adventures and discoveries. Here’s to the next 100 days and beyond!

Students (and teachers) had a wonderful time dressing up as 100 year olds, 100 years brighter or 100 things, it was amazing to see the commitment and passion from students not only dressing but acting as their own theme! We celebrated the day with 100 themed activities including drawing our 100 year old selves, counting to 100, taking lots of photos with friends and making a 100 days of school crown to wear around the school.

Initia Lit – Reading

Over the past fortnight, students have been introduced to three new sounds, including two digraphs. We have explored 'sh' as in shell, 'qu' as in Quiet Queen and '‘ee’ saying /ē/ as in tree. These new sounds have been incorporated into both reading and writing exercises.

Our storybook sessions featured "My Two Blankets" by Irena Kobald and Freya Blackwood. Students engaged with the text by identifying words such as 'stranged,' 'whispered,' and 'lonely,' discussing their meanings and acting them out. They also demonstrated their understanding by retelling events from the story.

In addition, we have been applying our new phonics knowledge to segment and blend CVC and CCVC words. Practice included words like quit, quick, quack, feet, sheep, bee, seed, keep, We also explored vowel sounds—'a,' 'e,' 'i,' 'o,' and 'u'—emphasising their importance in forming words.

And, we have also introduced some tricky words – words that have tricky parts that cannot be sounded out! We've regularly practised and looked at "all", "tall", "ball", "call", and "Iittle".

Maths -

In Maths this fortnight, students continued to focus on partitioning numbers up to 10 into two parts. Students used pipe cleaners and bead sliders, as well as number bond templates and counters for a hands-on approach to understanding how numbers can be split into different combinations.

Alongside partitioning, we are also learning about positional language. Students have enjoyed exploring how to use the words: in, on, under, next to, in front of, behind when describing where objects are. They have also been having fun playing games that involve travelling through, around, over, forward, backwards and sideways certain things. Students are also beginning to use the language of left and right!

Integrated -

This week, our integrated focus was on "My Favourite Celebration." Students discussed different types of celebrations such as Easter, Christmas, and Diwali. They shared their favourite celebrations and talked about how they celebrate them. Students were asked to think back to the last time they celebrated their favourite event, recalling what they did, what they ate, and whether there were any decorations involved. As part of a craft activity, students created a "My Favourite Celebration Balloon Display" based on their chosen celebration.

In our Respectful Relationships class, the Prep students learned about stress, which is a normal response to life's changes, pressures, and challenges. Stress is the feeling of being uncomfortable about something that is happening. During the lesson, the teachers marked an imaginary line across the floor, representing the range of stress levels. One end of the line, called the 'deep end,' represents very stressful situations, while the other end, the 'shallow end,' represents easy situations. In the middle of the line is the place where things are a bit stressful. The teachers described different situations, and the students went to the place on the line that represented whether they found the situation very stressful or not.

PMP:

In PMP, we had some very excited students. The students participated by showcasing the skills they have learned to their buddies. At the end of the session, all participants received a colouring sheet to celebrate the Olympics.
