NAPLAN State Level Results
The Victorian Department of Education has shared some important updates regarding the 2024 National Assessment Programme – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results. The state-level data reveals that Victorian pupils have continued to excel, with Year 3 pupils achieving the highest scores in reading and numeracy across the nation for the third consecutive year. This remarkable achievement highlights the dedication and hard work of educators and pupils alike.
In particular, Victoria secured the top or second-highest scores in 7 out of 8 measures in reading and writing. The state led the nation in writing for Years 5, 7, and 9. Additionally, improvements were seen in reading scores for Years 3, 7, and 9 compared to last year, despite a national trend of declining averages in these areas.
Notably, Victoria's overall reading performance saw a significant boost in 2024, with 5,000 more pupils reaching the ‘exceeding’ proficiency level compared to 2023. This is a testament to the effective teaching practices and strong support systems in place across schools.
Victoria also achieved its highest NAPLAN participation rate since the inception of the tests in 2008. This success is a reflection of the collective efforts made by schools, teachers, and families to ensure every pupil has the opportunity to showcase their learning.
While these results are cause for celebration, they also remind of the ongoing work needed to support all pupils. Efforts continue to reduce the number of pupils who need additional support, particularly in Year 3 reading, by implementing evidence-based teaching practices across all year levels. Further engagement and support for secondary pupils, especially those in Years 7 to 9, remains a priority.
Finally, we are delighted to announce that Macedon Primary School has performed above the state average in all assessed areas. This outstanding achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our pupils, staff, and leadership teams. We are incredibly proud of what our school community has accomplished, and we look forward to continuing our journey of excellence in education.
