Dear Year 6 Parents
As your son/daughter prepares for the exciting transition to Secondary School, we warmly invite you to join us for a Year 7 Information Evening on Wednesday, 28 August. This event is designed especially for Emmaus Year 6 parents, to discover what lies ahead for their son/daughter in Year 7 and beyond.
Date: Wednesday, 28 August
Time: 5:30pm to 7:00pm
Location: Emmaus Christian College, South Plympton Campus, 7 Lynton Avenue
Staff Room, Level 1, Southern Building
During the evening, Deb Ellis, Director of Year 7-8, and I will share a comprehensive insight into Year 7, including curriculum, extracurricular opportunities, camps, career pathways, and the support systems we have in place to ensure a smooth transition. All Year 6 students will enjoy a full-day Orientation Program on Friday, 8 November.
Our goal is to continue to create a strong sense of belonging through pastoral care and ensuring every student feels valued and supported within the Emmaus community. Our holistic approach nurtures students to develop academic, spiritual, and emotional growth, guiding students smoothly through adolescence to adulthood and empowering them to explore their God-given gifts.
This is a wonderful opportunity to equip yourself to support your son/daughter as they take the next step into their secondary education.
Kind regards
Andrea Grear
Principal - Secondary, South Plympton

We look forward to continuing to work through The Zones of Regulation Curriculum this semester. As a school, we introduced this curriculum two years ago and successfully used it to help children regulate and understand their emotions.
The curriculum is tailored to assist students in gaining skills to thoughtfully regulate their actions by teaching them what these emotions might look like and how they might feel. We tell the children that it is okay to feel a range of emotions and then equip them with tools to support them in that zone.
This year, we have also incorporated a biblical aspect into our lessons. God created emotions, and our emotional wellbeing is rooted in our relationship with God. The Bible is the foundation for all our learning.
We will be linking stories from the Bible that show how Jesus taught us to live through parables and Old Testament stories. We will learn how those in the Bible overcame emotional obstacles and that praying to God will help us.
In the first lesson, we looked at how God wants us to feel loved and welcomed into this world he created. If we don't show this love and become selfish, it can affect and hurt those around us.
Then we looked at how we would like to feel when we come to school and what we can do to feel that way. As a class, we created a poster to show this. I loved hearing all the children's ideas and sharing why they want to feel this way at school.
In the second lesson, we introduced our Zone’s colours and what each represents. We talked about the different emotions we might feel in each colour. We continued to build upon what they had already learnt and were able to talk about some new feelings we might be experiencing this year.
In the third lesson, we will compare our facial expressions to others and see how ours might differ from others when we show the same emotion. We talked about the story of Joseph and his colourful coat and looked at all the emotions that were portrayed by all the characters. We discussed how misinterpreting someone's emotions can lead to complications and friendship fires.
I look forward to what God has in store over the next few lessons. Seeing how our emotions are connected to God and how stories from the Bible can help us understand that everyone goes through different emotions. Through this program, we can learn more about ourselves and grow in the knowledge of how we can deal with/regulate these emotions that can sometimes be scary for us.
God loves us and wants us to thrive in all we do. We pray that this program will guide and support our children as they understand these emotions and feelings and give them the tools they need to manage them. Remember that God is our stronghold and that he will give us what we need in every situation we are faced with.
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah. 41:10
