🗣️Year 6 Inter-School Debating - Round 3🗣️

On Wednesday 28th August, Chilwell A and Chilwell B travelled to Torquay to debate against the two Christian College Surf Coast teams. When we first arrived, our hosts came out and kindly greeted us with coffee (for parents), tea and biscuits! The third round was the first of two unprepared rounds, where the topic was given to us on the spot with no preparation.  Each team went into separate rooms for 30 minutes to do our speeches on our own with no research material.

The topic was ‘that camps and excursions are an essential part of primary school’. Chilwell A was disagreeing with the topic in the earlier debate and Chilwell B was agreeing with the topic in the later debate. After 30 minutes, the Team A kids were led to the Library where the debate was taking place, while Team B went into a room to begin our speeches. We were all extremely nervous, but we were also determined not to show it! It went really well, and we are very pleased to say that both our teams won their debates! We would like to thank Mrs Stephenson and Mr Cole for all the help and support they've given us all this time, and we are definitely looking forward to our next debate!

🥼Yr 5 Science Incursion🥼

On Wednesday the 21st of August, the grade fives had Mr Brown from Geelong high School to teach us about 'Changing States'. It was held in the amphitheatre from 9:00 till recess.

Mr Brown used dry ice in most of his experiments, he explained many things, like how solids turn into liquids, then liquid turns into gas. Did you know that dry ice doesn't melt? Instead it repels into gas and applies pressure and bubbles into the container or glass when added with water.

All of the grade fives had lots of fun and were fascinated on the topic, there were such fun observations! A few students got chosen to go up the front to help out with the experiments. Everyone enjoyed the experience and learned lots of new interesting things. We are so grateful Steve was able to come and set this up for us.

🔨Prep Bunnings Visit🔨

Last week, our preps had an absolute blast with a special visit from two Bunnings Warehouse stars! They spent an afternoon mastering the art of hammering and nailing to craft their very own toolboxes—a perfect Father’s Day surprise. The amphitheatre was a whirlwind of creativity and noise and the little builders even painted their masterpieces! The chaos was totally worth it for the smiles on their faces 😁
