PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Last week was certainly an exciting one, where we welcomed our community for Student Led Conferences. The energy in the classrooms was amazing and we were proud of the reflection and goals the students shared with you all. The Specialist Room was well attended with students sharing their learning in Visual Art, STEM, PE and Performing Arts as well as future goals. Please remember, the doors are always open to check in with staff as needed throughout the year.

The Trivia Night organising committee are in full swing for this event which will be held on October 12th. Thank you to the parents and carers who are giving this time to organise what will be a fun-filled event. Keep your eye out in the newsletter for ways you can support, contribute and for ticket sales.

Last Friday, we held our Curriculum Day at school for classroom teachers and some local school visits for Specialist and Education Support staff. Classroom teachers prepared for the transition to the new Maths Curriculum from 2024. Our specialist teachers visited Geelong High School to complete learning walks with specialist areas in a secondary context, learning skills and strategies that can further enhance primary school learning. Our Education Support staff attended Armstrong Creek School to observe great inclusive learning strategies, along with supports and adjustments to maximise student learning outcomes. The afternoon was focused on reviewing our current School Strategic Plan, identifying areas of strength and future growth in the lead up to our School Review next term. It was a busy day, full of great learning. Thank you to Louisa Blamires and Meg Bone for all their work preparing for the Curriculum Day.

This Friday is the infamous COLOUR RUN!!!!!  Students are asked to bring a white t-shirt on the day for the run.  Students had a demonstration of this the other week to be able to visualise what this event will look like.  As mentioned at previous assemblies and in communications, if the colour powder isn’t for you or you have allergies/asthma or feel a bit overwhelmed by the Colour Run there will be an option to participate in a ‘sensory run’ where you will still run around the oval but instead of colour/water it will be bubbles. There will be an earlier lunch time on this day to cater for the afternoon colour run. This will be a fun-filled day for everyone!

Last week, the Grade 3/4s had an exciting visit to ScienceWorks. Bunnings also came to assist with toolbox building for Father’s Day and for special friends. BATForce (Barwon Adolescent Task Force) came for incursions with the Grade 5/6 students on ‘Tools to Launch’ and ‘Digital Tattoo’, focused on tools to be your best authentic self, be kind and respectful both in real life and online. We hope as many of the parents from Grade 4-6 can get along to the BatForce Parent session this Wednesday. See your Compass newsfeed for the booking link. …so many extra-curricular events that the students have enjoyed!

Yesterday, we completed vocal recording for the School Concert. This is fast approaching on Wednesday 18th September at Geelong Arena. Tickets are on sale now with the booking link available on Compass.

Have a fun-filled week.

Kind regards,

Sarah Jeffreys
