Foundation

Teachers: Nikki Lewis, Courtney Williams, Bec Mealings and Lauren Pring

Another exciting fortnight has passed in Foundation, with the Wheels Parade and Book Week being a major highlight! Scroll down to read about our recent adventures.

Important Dates:

Week 7

Monday 26th August – F-2 Assembly

Thursday 29th August – Father's Day Stall for all Foundation Classes

Friday 30th August – Fathers, Grandfathers and Special Friends Picnic (12:30 - 1:10pm)

Book Week!

On Monday, the Foundation students very excitedly attended their very first Book Week Parade and showed off their amazing costumes.

Author and Illustrator Nicky Johnston visited VPS and the Foundation - Grade 2 students LOVED learning how to draw the bunny from the 'Coco' series.

We spent the week exploring different author's through craft and creativity. These included Aaron Blabey ('Thelma the Unicorn'), Julia Donaldson ('The Gruffalo'), Matt Cosgrove (Alpacas with Maracas) and Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara ('Little People, BIG DREAMS' series).

Father's Day Stall and Picnic

This coming Thursday 29th August, all Foundation classes will be attending the Father's Day Stall in the morning. Please ensure that money sent along to school is kept in a safe place, for example a purse/wallet or snap lock bag. Furthermore, please let your children know where you have placed the money in their bag so they are aware and the morning runs as smoothly as possible. The prices of most items available for purchase will be between $1 and $9. We ask that they bring along a maximum of $15 so it allows everyone the opportunity to purchase items.

Then, on Friday 30th August, we will be hosting our Father’s, Grandfather’s and Special Friends Picnic from 12:30 - 1:10pm (the beginning of lunch time). We are really looking forward to seeing our special visitors at the Prep Playground near the picnic tables on Friday.

Early Leavers

If your child needs to leave school early for any reason, please kindly let your child's classroom teacher know via email before pick-up. This helps us ensure that your child is ready to go and minimises any disruptions to their learning or classroom activities. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Semester 2 Parent/Teacher Academic Interviews

From this Monday 26th August, all parents will have the opportunity to book in a time with their child's classroom teacher via COMPASS. The interview dates are: Monday 9th September and Tuesday 10th September.

A reminder to families of 0BM that your Parent/Teacher Interviews with Miss Mealings will take place at an earlier date - please refer to your emails.

Art Smocks

We have recently begun our Inquiry rotations, where students will get to experience a range of different activities. One of these activities include Messy Play! Art smocks that were washed over the Term 2 holidays must be returned to school, as they are also needed for our weekly art sessions.

Inquiry - Cardboard Boxes

As you know, later in the term, we will be designing and building toys. Thank you so much for the boxes that we have received so far! We would love it if you could continue to collect and send in cardboard boxes; small boxes such as muesli bar and cereal boxes are ideal. Please no empty egg cartons or toilet rolls. Thank you!

Wheels Parade

We had so much fun at our wheels parade, showing off our toys with different wheels.

Vermont Primary School Writing Competition

We would love the Foundation students to have a go at this competition on their own! Stories that have lots of parent help (for example, perfect spelling!) are less likely to be the winner in Foundation. We are looking for the student's best effort.
