Book Week
We have had a great time this week celebrating Book Week. We loved seeing the children dressed as their favourite characters and bringing along their favourite stories to share with the other children. Well Done to all the parents on their creativity too!
Science Week
So much happening in all our kinder groups this week to explore science. Our Lasiandra Group wrapped up an ongoing project looking at mushrooms by cooking the mushrooms they had grown and getting to taste them! They were absolutely delicious!!! They had grown Pink Oyster Mushrooms and Lions Mane Mushrooms. It was so impressive that the children all tried them, and enjoyed them.
We also explored chemical reactions, with mixing bicarb and vinegar or lemon, we mixed potions and erupted volcanos, we even made our hair stand on end while we learnt about static electricity!!!
Allied Health - Speech Therapist Tips
Beebots
The 3YOs have begun exploring coding with the BeeBots. It is incredible how our little digital natives take to these tasks so quickly and easily. They were able to make the beebots move around the treasure map in the directions they wanted.
4YO Bee Incursion Payment
Just a reminder that a payment is due for the Two Part Bee incursion for the 4 YO children.
Our 4YO's have an exciting visit from Holly's Backyard Bees coming to Kinder!!
The incursion will be over two sessions and include the following -
Part One - Honey Bee Incursion:
- During the incursion Holly brings in her observation hive so that the children can see a real honey bee colony in action. A demonstration of beekeeping tools and suit is provided along with a childrens sized suit and veil for the children to try on. Of course, you couldn’t learn about bees without tasting some honey too!
- The themes of discussion are focused on what makes up a hive, the bee lifecycle and how the bees make honey. We also spend plenty of time talking about how the bees help our environment, why they are so important in our food systems and sustainability and how to respond and behave around bees in our natural play spaces.
Part Two - Beeswax Food wrap and Candle Making Incursion:
- During the incursion, the children will learn about how and why the bees make beeswax in the first place, how the beekeeper harvests it, and how we can use it in candle making.
- Each child will be able to make either a poured candle or a rolled candle to take home.
- During this incursion, Holly facilitates discussion about plastic waste to encourage the children to identify the issues themselves and guides them in finding some solutions together.
- During the session each child will make a beeswax food wrap which they can take home. All materials for this session are provided and the children will be able to choose their own fabric prints to accomodate their own taste!
