We have had a flurry of activity around the school since our last newsletter. With a hugely successful Book Fair, as well as our Book Week dress up, author visit and classroom celebrations. Something that is always a pleasure to see is the way many students embrace the fun and excitement of these special events. This was evident with some of the costumes on Monday! I am sure there were many hours spent at home putting together some very special dress ups, and this is not only exciting for the student wearing it, but creates a buzz among the other students. There were lots of people talking about the amazing Pirate Ship, Gangsta Granny and the huge book as well as many others. As our Library Captains, Ethan and Charlie mentioned when hosting the assembly on Monday, thank you to the parents and carers who have helped to put together some memorable outfits for our students to enjoy.
If you have not seen already, please jump onto the official Vermont Primary School Instagram page and check out a few snaps and a short video of some of our staff in their creative costumes!
I am sure if you are a frequent reader of the newsletter, you will be aware of how many times we have issued reminders about the parking around the school. We understand that the congestion around the roads is difficult to manage, and that not all motorists choose to follow the rules. However, our number one priority is the safety of your children when they are arriving and leaving school. We have, once again, had a number of very near misses with people ignoring parking restrictions, and sadly, ignoring Ian, our Crossing Guard.
We remind everyone that Kiss & Go Zones are not parking spaces. They are exactly what they say they are - a spot to pull up, say goodbye and have your child safely exit the vehicle onto the footpath.
Please see this reminder from the Whitehorse Council on proper use of the Kiss & Go Zones.
As you will have seen if you have walked through from the Vermont Oval, the works to our Stadium are almost finished. These upgrades to the plumbing have been a long time coming, and we are so excited that we are almost done! Our hardworking crew have completed the following works:
We are awaiting new fencing and a few more areas of concrete, and then we should be able to open our new area which we are creating a 'passive play space' in. This gives students somewhere to play without games of footy, cricket or basketball around them. We are hoping to install some new seating and eventually some ground-games (i.e. Hopscotch, Two-Square etc.) We will also be creating new gardens, and replacing all trees/shrubs that have been removed in the process.
We are so grateful to the school community for fundraising efforts from events such as the Colour Run, Celebration Stalls and of course from people who have made school contributions to the Buildings and Grounds fund as this is all possible because of the money that you have helped to raise. This money is being used to upgrade facilities for students who are here right now, and we are thrilled with the results so far. We can't wait to unveil the finished project soon!
Parent Teacher Interviews will be running on the 9th and 10th of September. Booking through Compass will be available on Monday 26th August. If you have any trouble booking an interview, let your child's classroom teacher know via email.
