A message from our Principal

Dear St. Brendan's School Community,

On Monday we had a meeting with our School Advisory Council.

As the previous Council's tenure was finished, we needed new members.  Jo Spencer nominated to be School Advisory Chair.  Jo had been on the previous Council.

Along with Joel Brian, John Howley and myself, our new members are:

  • Cher Hetherington
  • Stuart Wright
  • Stacy D'Alessandro
  • Luke Sofi
  • Declo Bisimwa

We discussed the areas we are focusing on with Professional Development.

  • Resilience Project - teachers, children and parents will be offered information during the year and students will have journals to work through.
  • Zones of Regulation is an empowering instructional tool to build safe, supportive environments that foster wellbeing for all.  Our Occupational therapists; Annie, Angela and Danae have worked with the Staff in this area.

Learners benefit from;

  •  Increased self awareness and social and emotional skills
  • A common language for communication
  • A healthier, more inclusive school climate.

The School Advisory Council discusses strategic planning and ideas for parents to be engaged in their child's learning.

We look forward to working with the Council.

Real Schools

Daniel Vella spent the day at our School taking lessons in all the areas.  Teachers all had an opportunity to watch a lesson in their Unit.

Specialists and Learning Support Officers watched a lesson.  Daniel modelled a very calm approach and reinforced with positive language, the behaviour he wanted to see and gave positive feedback when it happened.

Daniel also conducted a Parent Information Night which we had a number of parents attend.

Daniel has sent some videos and information for parents so they can be informed of what we are doing so we work in partnership.

We are very excited to have Real Schools to be a part of our partners for the next 3 years.

Junior Years

Good luck to our Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 children as they attend the Bendigo Discovery Centre tomorrow on their excursion.  I am sure they will have a great time as well as the teachers.

Professional Development

This coming weekend is the King's Birthday Holiday and long weekend on Monday, 10th June.  We also have a Student Free day on Tuesday, 11th June as Staff will be participating in a Professional Development Day on Numeracy.  School will resume for students on Wednesday, 12th June.

Our thoughts and Prayers

Our thoughts and prayers are with Dave Maskell on the sad loss of his dearly loved father. Dave has been with his mother and siblings at Harvey Bay.  "May his dear father rest in peace".

Kind regards,
