3/4 CLASSROOM

This fortnight has been full of excitement and learning for both students and teachers. Last Friday we set off to Melbourne for our whole school excursion. The bus was filled with excitement and anticipation for the day ahead. We started our day at legoland, our favourite activities were the rides and the sailboat workshop. In the sailboat workshop we learnt how to build a lego sailboat and investigated how different shapes of sails can affect the success of the sail.

At the Mary MacKillop house we were greeted by some lovely people who were very passionate about St Mary's life. We learnt about her life journey and how she worked hard to create catholic education in Australia.

In religion we have been learning about the circle of life. This has been an exciting topic for us as we have been creating memory boxes filled with images of the places and things we love. We have learnt what it means to be loved and why memories are important to us as we circle through our life. We have also learnt that all things living have a beginning and an end and that it is important to remember the special memories we make along the way.

In maths we have been covering measurement. On Monday we learnt about angles and how we can find angles in our environment. We enjoyed writing our names in block letters and finding the angles in our names. Our upcoming unit in maths will be money. We were very lucky to have so many generous donations from the biggest morning tea, the grade 3/4 class got to count all the coins making it a great lead up to our money unit. As a class we counted $144.15 worth of 5 and 10 cent coins.

Last week was reconciliation week. We learnt what it means to say sorry and mean it as well as what it means to reconcile. We individually made pledges for what we can do to work towards reconciliation. We also made some narratives using traditional symbols. Can you read our narratives using the symbols?
