Year 10 Work Experience
Last week, our Year Hazel Glen College students participated in the Year 10 Work Experience program. This has given students a wider understanding of opportunities available for them to pathway into post Secondary Studies. We have had some great reports back from students about how invaluable this experience has been with some of them being offered part time employment at the end of their placement.
Here are some of our student's experiences:
'During my placement at Crusader Caravans I was able to experience the whole business from storeroom to planning and research and development. In the storeroom I was working alongside my colleague, where our duties included picking items from the store, placing them on a trolley, and transporting them to the department for shelf replenishment. This was highly different to the Planning Department where I engaged in a tutorial session on their software package and successfully created a functional model as part of my practice with the CAD package. In Research and Development. I shadowed the CNC Programmer, observing the process of inputting customer orders into the system with detailed measurements for partitions, cupboards, drawers, and other components. Subsequently, these specifications were uploaded onto the CNC Computer to prepare for production.'- Ethan
Jack completed his Work Experience Placement at a Real Estate Agent Border Property Exchange. Jack was involved in assisting the Sales Executive in selling a property.
'Throughout the week I completed my work experience course at Hazel Glen College. I participated in teaching Year 4's their core subjects as well as electives such as PE, Performing Art and many more. My experience was amazing and the teacher I worked with, Miss Curren, was kind and helpful and showed me around the workplace. The students were respectful and definitely a class to remember. I had a lovely time and felt welcomed into this space.' - Tayla
Little kids meet big kids! Our Year 1 Community Visit
Last week, our bright-eyed and very friendly Year 1 students visited the Secondary Years classrooms for a tour. They got to experience a variety of different lessons and see what it might be like to be a student on the other side of the school! Thank you to all of our Secondary Years students for being so welcoming and sharing your learning and classrooms with our Primary Years visitors.
Year 9 Personal Best Project
This week, Year 9 students presented their 'Personal Best Project' to their peers and our school community. The project was an opportunity for students to design something that they choose and take pride in. Over a period of 14 weeks, they worked hard to turn their project vision into reality and learned many lessons along the way. The 'Personal Best Project' supports students to develop skills in an area of their choice. They are encouraged to share their own gifts and talents with stakeholders, explore their capabilities and push their own personal boundaries to achieve their very best.
Here are a few photos to capture some of the projects our students have worked incredibly hard on.
IDAHOBIT Day - Friday 17th May
Last week we celebrated IDAHOBIT in our Hazel Glen College community!
International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) celebrates all of the progress that has been made towards creating safer and more inclusive schools in Australia. On this day we also acknowledged the work that still needs to be done so that LGBTQIA+ young people can be happy, safe and learning at school.
To create conversation around this special day, students received some information about what IDAHOBIT is for within their iThrive classes, and had the option to participate in some lunchtime activities. Our activities included our College's famous Open Mic, some lawn games, and an affirmation wall to pass on messages of hope to students at the school.
