Head of Secondary Years' Report

Dear Secondary Years Families,

The cooler weather is certainly upon us and like most communities, we are being impacted by illness. Could families please ensure to keep children home when they are unwell, to avoid the spread of illness and please ensure you notify the College via Compass when your child is absent from school due to illness.

We have had a number of community events over the past two weeks, that you can read more about in the Celebrations of Learning and Community section of the newsletter. These include Year 10 Work Experience, Year 9 Morrisby Interviews, Education Support Staff Day, IDAHOBIT Day and the Year 9 Personal Best Evening. These events are such an important part of your child's educational journey and an important part of developing a sense of community and connection at HGC.

Next week we acknowledge National Reconciliation Week from the 27th of May to the 3rd of June. National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, and we have a number of educational and social activities planned.

Education Week

During Education Week, we were fortunate enough to have the Year 1 students visit the Secondary Years as part of their curiosity community unit of 'Our History, Our Future.'

The tours of Secondary Years were hosted by some of our leadership students and the Year 1 students visited several classes, including Science, Media, PE, Food Technology, and Humanities as well as a range of VCE classes. The smiles on the faces of the Year 1 students were a testament to how much they enjoyed the incursion.

Exams

A reminder that the examination period for our Year 11 students will commence in week 8 on the 6th of June and they will have a study day on Wednesday the 5th June. Our Year 10 exams will commence on the 11th of June. It is a good time for students to start getting their revision materials ready and start studying at home to avoid the last minute cram.
