Learning and Teaching

Individualising Learning

What is the Science of Learning?

At St Mary's, our teaching practices are designed using current research. Recently there has been a strong focus in educational research on the Science of Learning. This research shows strong evidence about the processes that occur during learning. These processes explain why some teaching practices are more effective than others. The Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) has created a model to explain how effective teaching practices align with how students learn.

At St Mary's, we have used this research for some time and have embedded these techniques throughout our policies and practices, including programs such as Multilit, Spelling Mastery, Number Fluency Bricks, Daily Reviews and many more.

These processes are reflected on and used during our weekly planning sessions to ensure all students are engaged and can achieve success in their learning.
