 Behaviour Management Process

At College, we seek to nurture academic opportunities for all students.  This week we have implemented a new behaviour management process for all Senior Campus classes. The following diagram is up in each classroom and mentors have explained the process to students.

We worked with the Students Representative Council and staff to develop a clear and fair approach to behaviour management to ensure every student is in a safe and effective learning environment. This includes all areas of learning, in the classroom and during PE.

As you can see, the focus is on students making good choices, and being able to reset their behaviour when asked to.  The majority of students and classrooms operate this way and that is the benefit of small classes taught by specialist teachers.  However, under this new behaviour management process, students will only be asked twice to improve their behaviour before they are withdrawn from the classroom. Parents will be informed of student behaviour in the final two steps of the process, following a warning and if they are sent to the front office.

If a student is sent to the front office, the following steps will take place:

  • meet with a member of the leadership team: Principal Michael Horne, Deputy Principal Kristen Waldron or Director Learning and Teaching Anna Robertson
  • continue with their subject work
  • lose a lunchtime privilege
  • be supported to hold a restorative conversation with the teacher to ensure a smooth return to classroom learning

Our unwavering commitment at College is that every student is in a supportive learning environment where we can nurture academic opportunities.
