Principal's Report

Mother’s Day

I hope all our mums had a very special day on Sunday and were showered with kindness and gratitude. The Mother’s Day function last Thursday evening was a great success and thank you to all who supported the event. A big thank you to the wonderful Lyla Hennig for all her work and time in organising the night!

Building Works

I am sure many of you have noticed that work has commenced, mainly at the Junior Campus, to make more areas accessible for a student in a wheelchair. The work to be completed includes:

  • Building a ramp and staircase from the upper area of the Junior playground to the courtyard
  • Building a deck and ramp outside 2C and 2D
  • Modifications to the DDA toilet
  • Re-asphalting at the Senior Campus outside 3C and 3D.

Pleasingly, all of the works are fully funded by the Education Department.

Thank you from our SRC

A big ‘Thank You’ to the families that have supported our SRC initiative and brought in food for the Refugee Food Bank. Our SRC reps have been doing a wonderful job promoting this amongst our students at both the Junior and Senior Campus. You still have until the end of week 8, Friday 13th June, to send along jam, honey, sweet and dry biscuits if you haven’t done so already.

Year 1 and  5 Working Bee

Sunday, 25th May, is our Year 1 and 5 Working Bee from 9.00 to 11.00am.  It would be great to have many willing workers to undertake the myriad of tasks that need to be done on both campuses. Dimi and I are so grateful to all the people that are able to help out, even one hour makes a big difference.

Student Safety

Our school staff are out in the playground on yard duty at 8:45am in the morning and until 3:45 pm in the afternoon.  Any students that are in the playground unsupervised outside of these times are at risk. We ask that if your child does need to be on the school grounds outside of school hours that you, please book them into Before and After School Care with TeamKids to ensure their safety.

A further reminder that once children have arrived on school grounds, they are not allowed to leave the school to go to Zest or to go out and wait for their friends on Landcox Street.

Thank you in advance for your consideration as we work together to keep our children safe.

Student Medical Conditions

To all parents who have a child with a medical condition (Anaphylaxis*, Asthma, or allergies) could you please ensure you have emailed an updated Action Plan to gardenvale.ps@education.vic.gov.au.  (Recommended to be updated every 12-18 months)

Any required medication must also be provided - clearly labelled with dosages  and handed to either office and a Medication Authority Form completed and signed.

*An Individual Anaphylaxis Management Plan (IAMP) must also be provided for those students with Anaphylaxis. For students with asthma, a clearly labelled reliever and spacer and copy of their Action Plan must be kept in their school bag. Importantly these must also be taken by students to any excursion or sporting event.

For any medication that is required to be given at school, please complete a Medication Authority Form which can be found on our school website, in the policy section or from either campus office.

Thank you for your assistance in helping us to ensure the wellbeing of your child.

Have a lovely week,

Janine Hall
