Kinder/Year 1

In Year One, we have been improving our sentence writing by learning about the names of different parts of speech, which helps us create full sentences. We already know nouns and verbs, and use conjunctions such as because, but and so very well. Our focus has turned to adjectives and how they are used with linking verbs (The bee's body is fluffy and yellow.), or how we make a noun group (a fierce, hungry tuna fish). Our quality literature text is about animals, so we naturally learn facts about animals, dovetailing perfectly with our science unit on living things and their needs. This week’s story was about a clever fish left alone in the ocean.
EN1-CWT-01
A student plans, creates and revises texts written for different purposes, including paragraphs, using knowledge of vocabulary, text features and sentence structure.
Kindergarten students are also extending their science learning on living things during writing sessions via the text ‘Grace’s Mystery Seed’. They have planted their own mystery seeds and are tracking their progress daily for changes. Students predicted what their seeds would be, and recorded their responses on strips of paper with their seeds that were sent home. Now we wait. In the coming weeks, we hope to explore the vocabulary roots, stem, leaves, bud, bloom and as we continue to learn about the life cycle of a plant from seed to seed.
ENE-CWT-01 A student creates written texts that include at least 2 related ideas and correct simple sentences.
ENE-UARL-01 A student understands and responds to literature read to them.
