Junior Learning Community

Save the Date:  Year 1/ 2 excursion on Friday 20th June 2025. More information will be sent out in the next few weeks .

Year 1:

We hope you all had a lovely holiday and look forward to learning with our students in Term 2.

Please join us in welcoming our Pre-Service Teacher, Hayley Geisler, who will be with us for the next 8 weeks. Hayley is in her fourth year of a Bachelor of Primary Education at Flinders University. If you see Hayley around the school, please make her feel welcome. We hope she enjoys her learning and experience with us at St Joseph’s.

Over the next few weeks, we will continue our learning in Mathematics, focusing on Place Value and Counting. In Literacy, the children have been exploring the sounds (-y) and (-igh) as in 'i', and in week three, they will explore (ew) and (ue) as in 'oo'. We will also be writing sentences using nouns, verbs, and adjectives.

In Inquiry, the students will begin a new unit in Geography, learning about Weather and Environments. We look forward to engaging with the various aspects of this unit.

Year 2:

Welcome back to our Grade 2 families – we have had a calm and productive start to Term 2. Students have settled straight back into their Literacy and Mathematics routines.

In Religion we reflected on Easter Sunday. We also read about Pope Francis and discussed his important role in the Catholic Church and the impact he had on many. We have spent time preparing for the feast day of St Joseph the Worker.

Our Inquiry unit this term is based on Geography and ‘Different Environments’ within our community. Students created maps of how they travel to school each day and enjoyed looking at their home town ‘Cobram’ on Google Maps.

A reminder of how important it is to practice reading at home. We understand the business that families face during the week, however 10-15 minutes a day is so beneficial to your child’s literacy development. Please see attached our Check-IN Roster and ensure your child brings their reader folder to school on that day and is arriving as close to 8:30am as possible.
