LOOK WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING IN AUSLAN AT MPHPS

Hello everyone,

We are looking forward to the next fortnight with lots of fun learning in the Auslan classroom. It’s always great to see students practising the signs they have learnt and being enthusiastic about their learning. Last week we had a special Auslan guest presenter, Naomi. She shared to the year 5’s and 6’s what it’s like growing up as a deaf person. Naomi was supported by two interpreters, Luke and Candice. We certainly learned so much from Naomi and students asked great questions at the end of the presentation. I would like to thank Naomi, Luke and Candice for visiting us and enriching our knowledge of the Auslan Deaf culture.

SIGNS OF THE WEEK

Don’t forget to ask your child to show you some of the AUSLAN signs they have been learning. In the last fortnight we have been revising many signs that we learnt last year. The signs of the week are: ‘Australia’, ‘all’ & ‘rejoice.’

IN THE CLASSROOM

Years 3  Students have been practising signing the Australian National Anthem and they will be learning Days of the Week and Months of the Year in Auslan.

Year 4 – Students have been practising signs related to Season and the Weather and they will be learning how to sign words related to food in Auslan.

Year 5 – Students will be learning how to sign the names of various classroom items as well as learning descriptive signs about the classroom in Auslan.

Year 6 – Students will be learning about Sport and Equipment as well as present a short paragraph describing their favourite sport in Auslan.

  • Deaf people also can also enjoy going to concerts. They wear a special vest which amplifies the vibration of sound and they watch an interpreter who translates the lyrics of the song in Auslan.
