Co-curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

Well, that was not the start of the Winter season that we were hoping for. While it was great to finally see the sun on Friday afternoon and Saturday, unfortunately the damage had been done. With many council areas closing their fields, only a small handful of games were actually played. Across the codes only 15 games were played, amounting to only half of our complement of fixtures. Of the 15 games, the SPC Junior School were victorious in ten, drew two and lost three. Not a bad start to the season.
We look forward to a less interrupted week of training and seeing all our teams out of the field this weekend.
The manner in which boys are informed of their weekly fixtures will change, from this week onwards. Previously, hard copies of the fixtures list were placed in each classroom, each week. From this week on, this process will stop. Instead, boys will have the weekly draw emailed to them. There are many reasons for this, such as reducing the impact on the environment by using less paper and encouraging the boys to build good habits around checking their emails. Having the weekly draw in the student emails will also make them more accessible to the boys and their families. Hard copies will still be available in key areas of the Junior School for boys to check during Recess and Lunch breaks. Weekly draws will remain available on the SPC App and the College website.
Last week, a small cohort of students attended the CIS Touch Football trials. Under challenging conditions and against a large contingent of participants (around 120 students), our boys performed well. All the boys made it through the first initial cuts of students, however only two remained when the final 24 were named, Tate Quailey and Tony Karam. A great effort by both boys. At the end of a final grading, Tate was successful in being selected for the CIS Touch Football team. Congratulations on your selection Tate, we wish you all the best for the upcoming PSSA Touch Football Tournament.
With the Junior School Athletics Carnival scheduled at the end of this term, I will be calling for nominations for events. Boys will have the opportunity to nominate for Championship events in the 100m and 200m races as well as 1500m. Boys will also be able to nominate for trials in High Jump, Shot Put and Discus. Sign-up sheets will be available from Thursday outside the Sports Office, Markwell 12 and 3/4.
Lastly, we have a number of home games of Football this weekend to be held at Mason Park. It would be great to see boys arrive early to support their mates or stay after their games to offer support to those playing a little later in the day.
