John XXIII Rowing Club
Dear Families
On Saturday, 16 March, the John XXIII Rowing Club ventured to Bunbury to participate in the South West Head of the River. Our team faced intense competition from local schools including Bunbury Catholic, Bunbury Grammar, and MANEA College, demonstrating a significantly heightened competitive spirit this year.
Our efforts were crowned with success as JTC clinched The Charles Hastie Cup for amassing the highest overall points, a testament to the hard work and dedication of our rowers.
A big thank you to all the coaches and parents for making it such a successful weekend for the Club. This Regatta was a great dress rehearsal for the IGSSA and All School regatta season in Term 2. Well done to all the rowers who represented the College and your families with pride.
Adding to our week's highlights, on Wednesday evening, 20 March, we were privileged to host Beth O’Regan. Beth shared her insights on the pivotal factors influencing wellbeing and academic achievement, offering guidance on balancing the two. Her presentation was an enriching experience for our rowers, illuminating the path to both personal and academic excellence.
Year 9 to 12 Rowing Training Camp
We are excited to invite our Years 9 to 12 Rowers to our Combined Rowing Training Camp in the coming holidays. The Camp aims to provide all rowers with the opportunity to develop personal fitness, rowing abilities and camaraderie moving into the 2024 racing season.
Rowing Camp Information and a permission slip have been sent to parents to be completed by Wednesday, 27 March so that we can confirm the final numbers. The link to the online registration form is at the bottom of the permission slip.
Rowing training tops on sale
We have a limited number of blue training tops for sale in the Uniform Shop. Prices are as follows:
- Short-sleeved training tops: $15 each
- Long-sleeved training tops: $20 each
Rowers can wear their training tops to land training as an alternative to their school sports polo, so they are a great option to cut down on the weekly washing! They are also great under the zootsuits on the colder mornings. All proceeds from the sales of the tops will go directly to the Club as a fundraiser, so even more reason to purchase one…or two!
Rowing caps for embroidery
Remember to drop your rowing caps into the Uniform Shop for embroidery of this year’s date. Year 9s will have their new caps embroidered as part of this order. If you are new to the Rowing Club or have not previously received a cap, please let Jerram Gibson know. Caps must be dropped off no later than Tuesday, 26 March.
2024 Registrations
For our younger students in Years 7 and 8, it's exciting to note that Learn to Row programs will be held in Semester 2 and registrations for those programs will begin next term.
For those in Years 9 to 12, it's not too late to join the John XXIII Rowing Club for the 2024 season. Whether you're new to rowing, interested in becoming a coxswain, or looking to represent our College, we warmly invite you to join our rowing community.
Please don't hesitate to register and become a part of our proud rowing tradition by completing the online Registration Form available via the link below. Here's to a season of growth, teamwork, and success on the water!
