Sticks and Stones

Year 9 Incursion

On Friday 15 March, Brainstorm Productions presented their student wellbeing performance ‘Sticks & Stones' for Year 9.

'Sticks & Stones' is a live theatre experience that explores different forms of bullying and aggression, and encourages respect, assertiveness and conflict resolution at school, at home and online. Students are challenged to consider the impact of their behaviour and develop strategies for managing emotions, seeking help and building respectful relationships.  ‘Sticks & Stones' is part of our student wellbeing curriculum and has been developed by education and mental health professionals.

Feedback from students:

I believe that the Sticks and Stones experience was great and it really opened my mind to the effects people can make on others, and just to really take a good think about the way that you treat people can really make a big effect on them. I also learnt that there’s always a chance to make up for the bad you’ve done and turn things around. ~ Jack

On Friday, the year 9 students attended the Sticks and Stones event. This event was very informative, it taught students how to manage their emotions in a controlled way. They suggested channelling your anger in safe ways, such as practicing a hobby or doing something you enjoy, like listening to music. ~ Ryan

The Sticks and Stones performance was an interesting performance which took the same concepts told in an assembly and made it more enjoyable and understandable. I also think that it would help many people who are in similar situations. It would be great if we had more things like this. ~ Nicholas

Students are encouraged to fill out the feedback survey in their explore classes next week, which will allow us to gain more insight into the benefits of such programs at our school.

We would like to commend the Year 9 cohort for their exemplary behaviour during the event. Students were engaged and respectful to the performers, and exemplified our College School Wide Positive Behaviours.
