Introducing wrapper free lunches!

What are wrapper free lunches?

A wrapper-free lunch has no throw-away packaging. Everything in a waste-free lunchbox can be eaten, reused or composted.

It doesn’t mean you can’t send a sneaky sweet or salty snack in for your children – carrots and cucumber are great, but if you want to send in chips or Tiny Teddies, just decant them into a reuseable container so there is no packaging in the lunchbox.

Wrapper free lunches are good because:

  1. They encourage healthy eating.
  2. If everyone had a wrapper free lunch, the school yard would be a lot cleaner.
  3. Less rubbish in the school yard means less rubbish in storm water drains and less rubbish in oceans.
  4. You can compost food scraps making nutrient rich soil.

There are lots of reasons to have wrapper free lunches, some children are already enjoying wrapper free lunches.  We would love it if children could have wrapper free lunches every day, but we are launching wrapper free lunches in Term 2 specifically on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

This initiative will be called 2Ts Wrapper Free!  (as the wrapper free lunches are encouraged for all days, but specifically Tuesdays and Thursdays).

Let’s reduce our waste together at EHPS!

Earth Hour

Earth Hour is this Saturday, 23 March, at 8.30pm.

This is a world wide event where homes, businesses and governments turn lights off in their homes/buildings for one hour to reduce our ecological footprint.

We are encouraging families to participate in Earth Hour from 8.30pm to 9.30pm this Saturday. If you participate in Earth Hour and do a night walk or have a candle lit dinner, let us know! We’d love to see/hear how families have fun or try something new for this precious, energy saving initiative. Send any pictures to Ms Patel at Yogini.Patel@education.vic.gov.au
