Principal's Report

Dear Rockhampton North Special School Community,

As we close another term, it's a privilege to reflect on the remarkable progress and memorable moments we've shared.

A standout event was the Ministerial visit, a celebration marking the opening of our new E Block. The level of engagement from our students during the ceremony was extraordinary, showcasing the vibrant sense of belonging and community spirit that thrives in our school. During the Minister's briefing with Central Queensland principals last week, the complexity around the engagement of students with disabilities, support services, complex case management, and teacher shortages were the hot topics raised by principals. During these discussions, I thought of each one of our staff and the amazing work they do. When our staff are faced with very complex situations on a daily basis, I stand in awe of their strength to turn up daily with renewed strength and a smile on your face to ensure every student succeeds.

I’m also thrilled to announce the completion of the refurbishment of B Block. Our dedicated staff have been instrumental in setting up these new spaces, creating a fresh, inviting environment for our students’ learning journeys. This transformation reflects our unwavering commitment to providing top-notch educational facilities.

Another exciting development is the transition from a P&C to a Student Council. This move signifies a new chapter in student leadership and community engagement, promising greater involvement and fresh perspectives in our school’s activities. I encourage families keen on participating in school matters through various working groups to connect with us. Your involvement is key to enriching our school’s fabric.

Our school’s performance in English and Mathematics stands out remarkably, with our students achieving results that set us apart from other special schools in Queensland. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and students alike.

During my learning walks this term, I've been immensely impressed by the dedication and expertise of every staff member. The increase in student engagement and the notable improvement in the standard of our classroom environments are commendable. It's evident that our staff take immense pride in what they do, crafting a nurturing and stimulating environment for every student.

We also joyously celebrated Harmony Week, embracing the diverse tapestry of cultures within our community. This celebration is a beautiful expression of our commitment to inclusivity and mutual respect, which are at the heart of our school ethos.

As we head into the Easter holidays, I extend my heartfelt wishes for a restful and enjoyable break. Take this time to relax and cherish moments with family and friends.

Together, we’re building a future full of promise and opportunity for our students at Rockhampton North Special School. Here’s to continuing our journey of excellence and community spirit in the coming term.

Warm regards

Dehlia Dawson
