Year 12 Vocational Major – PDS Major Projects

Over the course of Semester Two, the Year 12 students in VM have been toiling away planning, implementing and then reflecting and evaluating their major projects. They had to speak to important people to get clearance for their ideas; they had to budget, create shopping lists, gather resources, go shopping (that was quite the adventure the first time…), create order forms, speak to students and staff at assemblies, and that was all before they got to get to the making stage!
The kitchen was a busy place on Tuesdays for five weeks with three groups cooking up a storm. We had wood-fired pizzas, taco’s and a baking stall. Outside of the kitchen, we had a Zorb-ball soccer series on a Wednesday during lunchtimes when the weather played nicely.
Challenges came up, adaptations were undertaken, and growth was immense! Improvements were made week after week, utilising feedback so that things were running much more smoothly by the time we got to Carnival Day, which was their last trading day. The teamwork and peer support over the weeks shown by all students, whether they were involved in the groups or not, was excellent to witness. Students helped gather wood, supervise and even cook using the fire, deliver orders, make sales, as well as drumming up customers to try creations.
Well done everyone, and a huge thank you to all who supported the students & their projects!
