YEAR 8
Building Strong Connections

Head of Year 8
At our Week 2 Assembly, we proudly celebrated a record number of Year 8 students receiving Principal’s Awards. We were also delighted to see one of our Year 8 students presented with a College Medallion – a remarkable recognition of consistent effort, character, and contribution to our community. Congratulations to all those acknowledged; I was very proud to see so many Year 8 students recognised in front of the College.
Next week in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), Year 8 students will take time to reflect on their Term 3 reports and set goals for the term ahead. This process encourages students to identify their strengths, recognise areas for growth, and take ownership of their learning journey. A key part of achieving these goals is consistent attendance, as being present each day helps students stay engaged in lessons, build strong routines, and remain connected with their peers and teachers.
This term in Health and Physical Education, Year 8 students are completing a unit on dance with a focus on Indigenous cultural dance. Through this unit, students are developing an appreciation of cultural traditions while building confidence, creativity, and teamwork. Later in the term, they will have the opportunity to present their dances to the younger students at St Gerard Majella, proudly sharing their learning and celebrating culture through performance.
This week, students have been reminded of the importance of securing their personal belongings throughout the school day. We ask for your support in reinforcing this message at home.
Students are expected to store items such as mobile devices, laptops, textbooks, and other personal possessions safely in their locked lockers during the day.
For those who ride to school, it is essential that bikes and e-scooters are secured with a lock to the racks provided in the bike shed. This helps ensure the safety of their property and supports a respectful and responsible school environment.
We appreciate your partnership in helping students take care of their belongings and maintain a safe and orderly college community.
