Spotlight on Early Stage 1 and Stage 1!

Our Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 teams have kicked off the term red hot! Students have been engaged with high quality literacy activities as part of their daily Reading Workshops. Students work in data informed groups to access independent learning tasks to assist in consolidating concepts that have been taught in modelled, shared and guided learning sessions.

Our students have access to our Skilled Helpful Adults to ensure that students are able to understand and articulate what they are learning, how they are going, how they know and how they can improve. We are on a journey on continuous improvement here at St Mary of the Angels, and it's great to see such engaging and productive learning occurring from the beginning of term.

5 Questions for Learning

At St Mary of the Angels, we use Sharratt’s 5 Questions for Learning to help students take ownership of their learning and talk confidently about what they know and can do. These questions can also be powerful conversation starters at home.

Instead of asking, “What did you do at school today?” try asking:

  1. What are you learning?

  2. How are you going in your learning?

  3. How do you know how you’re going?

  4. How can you improve?

  5. Where do you go for help?

These questions encourage deeper thinking and help children make connections between school and home. By using them regularly, you’ll be helping your child reflect on their progress, take pride in their achievements, and develop the language to talk about their learning journey.
