Learning and Teaching

What a busy and eventful start we have had to the term! There have been so many exciting learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom. Have a read of some of the great activities that have occurred throughout the term so far.

Reptile Encounters Visit the Preps!

Our Prep students were so excited to welcome Reptile Encounters and presenter Bryce to school this week! Bryce introduced the children to some fascinating Australian animals, including sugar gliders, frogs, and stick insects. Students were amazed to see the animals up close and learn all about their habitats, diets, and special features. The visit linked perfectly with our classroom learning, as the Preps have been exploring different animals and creating their own information texts. A big thank you to Bryce and the Reptile Encounters team for an unforgettable visit!

Grandparents and Special Persons Day

Last week, we celebrated Grandparents and Special Persons Day, a much-loved event on our school calendar! It was wonderful to welcome so many grandparents and special visitors into our classrooms to share in the joy of learning. Special activities were organised for them to enjoy alongside their grandchild or special little one, including reading books together, creating art and craft, and sharing stories about what life was like when they were young. Afterwards there was a beautiful whole-school Mass, followed by a lovely morning tea where our visitors had a chance to catch up and celebrate this special occasion together.

Our LSOs do an incredible job every single day. They help students in the classroom, support teachers, and make sure everyone has the best chance to learn and succeed. They are patient, caring, and always willing to go the extra mile to make our school a great place to be.

To show how much we appreciate them, we have been doing some special things all week to celebrate the wonderful people they are, and the important job they do. Our school wouldn’t be the same without them!

Mathematics Learning

Across the school, students have been focusing on a variety of Maths topics to develop their knowledge and skills in this space. The prep and year 1/2 students have used treasure maps and grids to learn about location and positional language. The 3/4s are currently working on multiplication and division, whilst 5/6s are exploring ways to represent data using graphs. Parents can support their child’s maths learning by involving them in everyday activities that use numbers, measurement, and problem solving. Below are some ideas that are engaging and based around real-life experiences that you might like to try.
