Student Wellbeing
Hello, ni hao, hola, marhaba from the Student Wellbeing Team! As of Term 4 2023, the Student Wellbeing team comprises a multidisciplinary team with experienced backgrounds in counselling, psychology, social and youth work, which are all qualified areas focused on supporting youth mental health. We five members include: Pek Lin Cerase - Student Wellbeing Officer (available Mondays to Fridays) Sasha Martin & Inger Ross - Mental Health Practitioners (available Mondays to Thursdays) Belle Dolin - Youth Worker (available Wednesdays & Fridays) Sienna Levy - Administrator (available Mondays, Tuesdays & Fridays). We work collaboratively with the student, their parents/carers, teachers and other allied health professionals to ensure that the student's unmet needs are explored, validated and addressed and practice evidence-based interventions with them such as mindful breathing, meditation, cognitive restructuring, exposure therapy, etc. We are open to implementing recommendations provided by the student's mental health clinician and participating in care team meetings for improved outcomes. Additionally, students who may not require regular interventions and occasionally need to relax can access our team to engage in decompression activities, then continue with their day if they feel able to do so.
Our Student Wellbeing Centre is a quiet space slightly isolated from the bustle of the school, providing an environment where students can decompress, regulate their emotions, soothe their nervous systems, and discuss with staff any future steps or interventions needed to assist the young person in the ongoing support of their mental health. Students can access us by contacting their Student Support Team or coming directly to the Student Wellbeing Centre in the Building B Library, just past the IT Desk (watch the virtual tour for a more detailed guide). We invite you to visit the newly refurbished and re-located Sensory Room, which doubles as a waiting room for students who have booked appointments with our staff where you can observe the following:- warm lighting- mindfulness/fidget toys available to play with- individual activities to engage in such as colouring in, kinetic sand, reading, playdough, balance cushions, etc- aromatherapy; and- furniture designed for emotional-regulation (featuring therapy pods, rocking chair and sensory cover) which are available for use by multiple students at a time. Students are welcome to utilise the Student Wellbeing Centre, or contact school staff if they are in need of an appointment on 9353 1700 or via email at peklin.cerase@coburg.vic.gov.au.
