Year 9 Outdoor Ed Camp

It was an early start arriving at school at 7:30. We packed the two buses and left at 8:00. We had a 3 hour drive ahead of us so heaps of people had a sleep. We stopped over for some toilet breaks and for petrol. We arrived at our campsite at 12:00, set up the tents and then we headed to our first hike, the Pinnacles Bush walk. It was an amazing hike around 5 kilometers and the view looked over kilometers of vacant land. We headed back to camp and lit the fire and shared marshmallows and camp stories. Everyone was a bit tired so we went to bed. We woke up to the birds chirping, had some brekkie and set our way heading for Mt Stapelton everyone was excited to start the hike. This hike was split into stages steep uphill flat gravel and then some more uphill but once you go to the top it was all worth it. Tom took us up in intervals of 10 to the lookout. It was great. We then headed to Mackenzie Falls which has just recently been reopened. The waterfall was so good walking along the track with the water flowing more and more this was a great stop. Our last adventure we headed to the Venus baths, a popular tourist attraction of a natural flow of water. We climbed to the top of the rocks looking down on the water. It was nice and refreshing. I would highly recommend this camp and the whole subject. The teachers made it fun and we went on some awesome adventures.

Financial Wellbeing for Girls

Over the past two terms students in Year 9 have been involved in the program run by VICSEG New Future, Financial Wellbeing for Girls. Students learnt a variety of different topics ranging from superannuation to financial abuse and are putting that knowledge into practice as they recorded a podcast with Ralph Barba from Live FM. Here is the final product:

Anyone experiencing financial distress or abuse can reach out to a range of community services as per page 15 of the booklet, including Orange Door or Kids Helpline.
