Eltham High School Inaugural Postcard Show

Winners announced

In term three the Visual Arts Leaders launched our inaugural postcard show. Staff and students were invited to create a postcard sized artwork that responded to the theme Connections.

Over 70 entries were received each depicting the unique ideas and responses of the artists. Artworks were completed in diverse mediums including pencil, pen, paint, collage and photography.

Judging of the artworks took place last week which proved to be a difficult task with so many creative entries.

The Visual Arts Leaders selected a work from each year level to be awarded highly commended, while Mr Sicari and an art panel selected three overall winners who will have their works reproduced as cards to be used by the school.

Congratulations to the following award recipients.

Montsalvat Youth Photography Prize 2023

We are thrilled to announce that Jemimah Lavis (Year 10, Andrew House), has achieved remarkable success placing third in the Montsalvat Youth Photography Prize 2023.

The award ceremony was held at Montsalvat last Sunday, 8 October. Speakers at the event included Dr. Catherine Dale, Chair of Montsalvat Board; Jim Connor, President of the Eltham Historical District Society; and Olivia Morris, Creative Program Coordinator - Exhibitions & Visual Arts at Montsalvat. This year’s Montsalvat Youth Photography Prize was made possible through the generous sponsorship of Dr. Helen Sykes from Future Leaders and Barbara Van Ernst AM.

Among approximately 60 submissions, Jemimah’s work stood out, making it to the shortlist of 10 finalists. The judges commented that Jemimah's image was incredibly skilful in drawing the viewer in, using composition and viewpoint to add depth and dimension to the scene.

In the photo, Jemimah stands between the first and second place winners of the prize, Yirong Huang (left) and Rhys Humphries (right). We are very proud that Jemimah was a prize winner and encourage her to continue her creative journey.
