RESPECT: On the last week of Term 3, students participated in the Model United Nations Debate. Stepping into the shoes of a country as their ambassador, students from Years 8, 9 and 10 discussed the topic of combating climate change. We also had the amazing experience of having our Indonesian sister-school join us for this via Zoom.
STRIVE: At the end of last term, our Year 9 photojournalists captured some great shots for the sports action, feature and concerning 'spot news' pieces. Bringing the hard hitting news stories of SCSC to you!
FLOURISH: Check out the amazing designs from our Year 9 Vis Com class. Our students worked through the design process to create a design for a specific target audience (themselves!).
FLOURISH: On the final week of Term 3, some of our Year 9-11 students travelled to Mount Hotham and embarked on an adventure to learn a new or further develop an existing skill (skiing or snowboarding). Students also had the opportunity to further develop their social relationships with peers and build their independence.
What a perfect way to end the term!
UNITE: As a part of Health and Human Development Unit 3/4, Our HHD class is taking social action and fundraising to build birthing kits for women and girls in low-income and developing countries. The class will be raising money to fund resources to build these clean birthing kits. These kits will be sent over to women in countries where mothers don't have access to the essential birth resources to prevent childbirth-related infections, helping to improve the basic cleanliness of the environment to improve health outcomes for mothers and newborns.
By donating $5.75, a clean birthing kit will be hand-packed by our students and sent to women and girls in need.

STRIVE: The SCSC School Representative Council had their fortnightly meeting last week and enjoyed another lunch of hot chips.
The students are very excited to be attending the GRIP leadership conference on the 23rd of October where they will learn some really practical leadership skills to use in 2024.
They also had a visit from the students who attended the ‘School of Student Leadership’ in Term 3, who spoke about their leadership project and how the SRC can help! For this meeting students broke into three groups to work on different ideas:
1. Developing a new ‘student-led’ whole school assembly format.
2. Designing a SRC badge to wear so students and teachers know who is in the SRC.
3. Creating some more Instagram posts and helping promote the ‘Student School of Leadership’ project…stayed tuned on their Instagram page @surfcoaststudents for some more posts about this!
FLOURISH: Last term, Koling Wada-ngal SCSC group worked with the very talented Bernadette Atkinson to create our own Marngrook ball.
Marngrook is a traditional Indigenous Australian football game played at gatherings and celebrations by sometimes more than 100 players. A marngrook ball is made from possum skin. Recently the AFL has recognised the Indigenous game Marngrook did undoubtedly influence Australian Rules football. We are excited to use the ball within our school.
FLOURISH: To mark the graduating class of 2023's final week of high school, students have celebrated with a 'Spirit Week'. We have loved seeing their creative costumes for each theme - particularly their primary school uniforms and 'What I wanted to be when I was little...'
It has been great to see the Year 12s have fun and reminisce about their time at SCSC before they head into their final exams. We look forward to formally farewelling them at their final assembly on Monday and Valedictory Dinner in November.
STRIVE: Congratulations to all the Year 12s who took part in the trial exams throughout the first week of the school holidays in order to best prepare them for their fast approaching VCAA VCE exams in October/November. Throughout the last week of Term 4, our Year 12 students had been participating in revision lectures provided by Connect Education. These revision lectures kick started our exam preparation and have been widely valued by our students. This shows true determination and a willingness to achieve excellence. It was a fantastic turn out with around 70 students sitting the English trial exam, and over 250 exams sat in total across the week. Well done!
UNITE: What a privilege it was hosting students from Torquay Coast PS, Anglesea PS and Bellbrae PS for our Annual Grade 5 Science Day, at the end of Term 3! Students participated in a range of science experiments that encouraged and engaged their inner chemist, biologist and physicist!
We hope they all enjoyed their day at SCSC!
FLOURISH: Term 3 was a solid term for our SCSC Sports & Surf Academy students as they thrived in community sport events. represented the school with distinction at inter-school competitions and continued to commit to early morning training sessions. Our Year 9+ Students travelled to the Sunshine Coast for their annual camp and can take away many learnings and positive memories.
Biggest congratulations to our athlete of the term Award Winners:
Thanks as always to our partners at Sport Support Australia for facilitating the program.
Final information for the 2024 Sports Academy Programs will be provided soon with the 2024 offerings including:
Nominations will open for the 2024 Year 7-12 SCSC Sports Academy Programs open from the 6th of November - please email scscsportsacademy@gmail.com if you wish to keep up to date.
UNITE: Year 10 Sport Leadership students have spent the end of term 3 and start of Term 4 organising sports and physical education programs for Year 7 students.
This has required the students to participate in coaching, umpiring, scoring and timekeeping various matches and strongly promotes independence and management.
Amazing work from all involved!
RESECT: HUGE Shout-Out to SCSC student Willem Curwood (Year 9) for making history as the youngest competitor to ever compete in the Sydney Half Marathon in a swift time of 1:37.32! What an amazing feat!
