'Seeing the world through a different lens.'

ART

Years 3 and 4 students used their skills and imagination to create ideas based on the movements seen in common minibeasts.

This is called Bio-mimicry. Scientist use ideas they find in nature to help them invent and create new ideas. For example the ability of spiky seeds to stick to socks started the invention of velcro which was needed on clothing for astronauts. You cant use buttons when wearing big thick gloves.

The students started with either the opening and closing mechanism of a lady birds wings or the ability of a slater to curl up in a ball.

The range of creative ideas for doors, openings and folding shapes was awe inspiring.

Here is Estelle, Ruby and Olivia.  They invented a doorway to a theme park based on lady bird wings that closed via a string mechanism.

STEM plus ART plus our INNOVATION THEME and you get magic.

Sustainability Leaders, Macy F, Hugo, Cynric and Imogen D, made a watering station with hiding spots for lizards as part of their biodiversity role  The leaders put out fresh water for birds and lizards every day.

Help Save Gorillas

Collecting unwanted mobile devices such as phones and ipads for Melbourne Zoo.

These devices will be recycled to lessen the need to mine for minerals near the gorilla habitat. Any funds raised from the recycled devices will be used to fund a Gorilla Vet group in the mine area. They monitor the gorillas and provide vaccination against diseases which come from the people working at the mines. The collection box is located outside the school office.

Trash to Fashion

As part of our Sustainability program we have interested senior students who would like to put on a Trash to Fash parade. We are looking for donations of good quality clothing that would normally go to an Op Shop. Only 18 % of clothes at Op Shops are resold.

We are trying to inspire students to repair and upcycle clothing rather than succumb to buying lots of unsustainable clothing. Students in art lessons are learning how to sew simple stitches and how to sew on a button. Basic but essential skills for life. If you have any clothes that are fit for repurpose please donate them to the art room.

If you have any questions about any of the above inforamton please dont hesitate to contact me via email. Thank you.
