Mental Health and Wellbeing  – Michelle Carland

Wellbeing Day

On Monday 30th October, we will be having a whole school Wellbeing Day. We will be working with our Student Wellbeing Leaders to plan the day. It will be a casual clothes day, so no school uniform is required. There will be activities to help nurture our students’ bodies and minds and opportunities to connect with each other. In addition to a day full of these activities, we will be having a community picnic at 11am. All families are welcome.

School Wide Positive Behaviour System (SWPBS)

This year we have been working on the development of our School Wide Positive Behaviour System, based around our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.

What is SWPBS?

School-wide positive behaviour support (SWPBS) is a framework that brings together school communities to develop positive, safe, supportive learning cultures. SWPBS assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children and young people.

What will SWPBS look like at Merri-bek Primary School?

A clear set of behaviour expectations are developed around our key school values (as defined in our matrix).

What is the Behaviour Expectation Matrix?

The Behaviour Expectation Matrix translates our school’s values into expected behaviours. Our expected behaviours will be explicitly taught in every classroom and consistently reinforced throughout the school. Our matrix’s will be displayed and positioned in many locations around the school and will be referred to and discussed regularly with all students at Merri-bek Primary School.

After consultation with our staff, students and parents, we are finalising our Behaviour Expectation Matrix and it will be visible around our school in the near future.

Fundraising

Pyjama Day was held on September 5th and we raised $351.15 to donate towards the Lighthouse Foundation. Well done everyone!

Thank you for your generous donation of A$351.15.

Our goal to end youth homelessness is not one we can achieve alone, we need support from the community and people like you to help us get there.

Because of your generosity, we’re supported in being able to provide the level of care our children and young people need to help them heal from neglect, abuse and trauma. This means more than providing a roof over their heads – it extends to the therapeutic care that is essential for working through complex trauma all the way to helping the young person become involved in the community and feel a sense of belonging, and ultimately to heal and thrive.

We never underestimate how even the smallest acts of kindness can help our young people. Every donation is important, no matter how small and can count towards making a difference in the lives of the children and young people who need it the most.

So thank you once again for making a difference.

Your generous gift is helping Lighthouse to work towards our vision of ending youth homelessness, together.
