Middles Learning Itinerary

What are we learning in the Middle School?

The school-wide key understanding we are exploring this term is:

There are thinking processes that can help us manage our responses. This supports us to collaborate with others and understand their perspectives.

Our big idea linked to this understanding is:

Self-regulation helps us to understand different perspectives.

We expect this portion of our inquiry to run for approximately five weeks.

We have broken down this big idea into four key stages. These stages are:

● We are developing our self-awareness.

● We are developing ways to regulate.

● We are developing ways to be flexible.

● We are developing our understanding of different perspectives.

To enhance this portion of our Inquiry, in English we will explore the following texts:

● Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus — Dusti Bowling

● The Boy Who Learned to Fly (short film)

● The Fox & the Star

The English concepts that we will explore through these texts are:

● Images and sounds

● Text connections

The Maths concepts that we will explore through this Big Idea are:

● Money

● Statistics

Another event that occurs in Term 4 is the Step-Up Program — a chance for students to:

● Experience change regularly for short periods of time in preparation for the new year.

● Practise moving between and spending time in new spaces.

● Spend time with and get to know new faces.

● Experience new routines.

● Meet new teachers.

Step-Up Program Dates:

● Step-Up 1: Monday 10th November, 11:45–1:15

● Step-Up 2: Monday 17th November, 11:45–1:15

● Step-Up 3: Monday 24th November, 11:45–1:15

● Step-Up 4: Monday 1st December, 11:45–1:15
