Growing in Wisdom and Gratitude
As the year draws to a close, we find ourselves immersed in report writing, graduations, and end-of-year celebrations. These moments naturally lead us to reflect: What have we achieved this year?
When we look at our students, we see incredible gifts and talents in each one of them. But I often wonder—do they see these gifts in themselves? And at what point do they become truly thankful for them, if at all?
There is so much in life to be thankful for. We are blessed in countless ways, yet we often overlook these blessings and treat them as ordinary. The truth is, nothing that comes from God is ordinary. In treating them as ordinary, we lack the wisdom to appreciate the gifts we’ve been and recognise them fully.
James 1:5 reminds us that if we lack wisdom, we can ask God for it. My prayer for our students—and for our whole community—is that we will seek wisdom: wisdom for every situation we face, every relationship we nurture, and every decision we make. Wisdom to see ourselves as God sees us, and to step confidently into the future He has planned.
Knowledge alone is not enough. I want our students to learn how to use knowledge wisely—to make decisions grounded in understanding and discernment. If we can help students grow in wisdom, they will live lives marked by gratitude for all God has done. They will experience His peace in both good times and hard times. They will notice the people God places in their path to serve and encourage. They will speak wisdom into the lives of others and listen for His voice above all else.
Developing wisdom and character in young people is a lofty goal, but it is essential, standing alongside our desire for academic excellence. These are long-term objectives that extend far beyond the classroom. The encouraging news is that feedback from those who interact with our students affirms that we are building a strong foundation. This foundation will serve them well as they continue their journey beyond the walls of the College.
