Year 7 & Year 11 Senior Mentor Team

Thank you Breakfast

On Friday morning, the Year 7 students, their PCG teachers, Mr Miskiewicz, Ms Bryant and the 48 Year 11 Senior Mentors gathered in the TC Sports Centre for the annual SMT Thank you Breakfast. Hosted by William Tyson (7.3) and Hugo Wilson (7.5), the Class of 2030 thanked the Class of 2026 for their ongoing support, guidance and leadership over their first year as high school students at Trinity College. The morning was opened with a beautiful Acknowledgement of Country, spoken by Orlando Hickey (7.5) and accompanied by Dhungala Briggs (11.4) on the didgeridoo.

The official ceremony saw both Year 11 SMT students and Year 7 students reflect on their journey in 2025 and what they have all learnt from each other. The Year 7s, with the help of the wonderful Ms Rhiaan Tannahill, surprised the SMT with a thank you film, that told them all how amazing they have all been helping them settle in and learn all about high school.

Mr Miskiewicz and Ms Bryant then presented the 2025 SMT with their Senior Mentor badges to acknowledge their hard work and dedication to the Class of 2030.

To end the ceremony, each PCG joined their individual Senior Mentors and shared cards of gratitude, a personal touch to express the way that each boys’ own mentor has helped guide their journey in 2025.

Huge thanks go to Miss Melanie Dunn for her always exceptional coordination of the event, along with Ms Tannahill for the wonderful film and to Mr Miskiewicz and Mr Testa for guiding this year’s SMT in the amazing way that they did. As always, a massive shout of gratitude to the Year 7 PCG teachers and the fantastic mentors who have made the year so special for the Class of 2030.

On Monday 3 November, 15 Year 10 students, accompanied by Ms Scordo and Mr Borrello, went on an excursion to Edith Cowan University for the ECU Hackateen event. We took part in fun and engaging activities that taught us about product pricing and comparison in grocery stores, and the cost-of-living crisis that we face in Australia today. Our main focus was finding strategies utilising AI that could improve the cost-of-living crisis. We learned about how small differences in price can add up over time, and how important it is to be smart with money when shopping. The session showed us how to use data and technology to compare prices effectively and make better financial decisions, which was really interesting and useful.

Overall, we got a lot out of the experience. All of us would definitely recommend this experience to all students. It helped us understand the real-world value of budgeting and how businesses think about pricing. We also enjoyed working together in teams and learning in a hands-on way outside the classroom. The ECU Hackateen trip was both educational and enjoyable, giving us new skills and insights we can use in everyday life.
