Junior School

Italian Week
This past week, our College came alive with the vibrant sights, sounds, and flavours of Italian Week. The week was a joyful celebration of cultural diversity and linguistic learning. Thanks to the outstanding efforts of Mr Favotto and Ms Dell’Oro, students across the Junior School were immersed in a variety of engaging activities that brought languages and cultures to life.
For our Year 6 students there was hands-on pasta-making workshop, where they learned to craft fresh pasta from scratch. The experience was not only educational but also incredibly fun, with students proudly showcasing their culinary creations and beaming with excitement. Our Year 5 boys learnt and performed an Italian song ‘Gioca Joue’. The boys in Year 4 have completed Roman mosaic artworks in their lessons this week.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, a gelato van visited the campus, offering students a delicious and refreshing treat, which was perfect for a warm spring day. The simple joy of sharing gelato with friends added a sweet touch to the week’s celebrations.
Italian Week provided the chance to foster curiosity, appreciation, and respect for the many cultures that enrich our community. We are deeply grateful to Mr Favotto and Ms Dell’Oro for their creativity, passion, and dedication in making this week so memorable.
God Bless,
Mr James McPherson

Afternoon of Eminence
Monday, 3rd November
On Monday 3 November, the Year 6 GIFT class presented their Afternoon of Eminence in the Braham Auditorium, marking the culmination of ten weeks of research, inquiry, and creative exploration. This special event celebrated the lives and legacies of eminent figures from history, science, philosophy, and exploration who were brought to life by our talented students.
Guests were treated to a parade of historical icons, including Immanuel Kant (portrayed by Leo Warner), Ferdinand Magellan complete with his ship (Lucas Neves), and Dmitri Mendeleev (Ethan Skidmore). Even our own sporting legend Simon Katich made an appearance, thanks to Riley Misquita’s engaging portrayal.
Alan Turing (Tommy Smith) impressed the audience with an interactive code-breaking activity, while Rosalind Franklin’s groundbreaking work on DNA was eloquently explained by Jesse Shinkfield. Each student embodied their chosen figure with enthusiasm and depth, offering a rich tapestry of presentations that combined research, creativity, and performance.
The afternoon was a testament to the students’ dedication, curiosity, and collaborative spirit. Their ability to communicate complex ideas in engaging and accessible ways was truly commendable. We congratulate all the boys on their outstanding efforts and thank the staff and families who supported them throughout this journey.
It was a wonderful celebration of learning, and a powerful reminder of the impact that curiosity and passion can have when nurtured in a supportive environment.

Katich Moody Shield
On an overcast Thursday morning at Mann Oval, Trinity College were sent into bat after Guildford Grammar won the toss. What followed was a commanding all-round display, with Trinity posting a strong 275 from their 40 overs before bowling Guildford out for 177 to claim a dominant 98-run victory.
Openers Sam O’Connor and Charlie Francis started positively, negotiating early movement before O’Connor fell in the third over. Charlie continued with composure, finding the gaps and punishing anything loose. Partnered by Luke Murdoch, the pair added over a hundred, setting up the innings perfectly. Charlie made a well-constructed 60, while Luke’s fluent stroke play saw him dominate the attack.
Murdoch’s innings was the standout performance, an elegant 119 off 91 balls featuring 17 boundaries and a six. When he fell in the 35th over trying to push the scoring rate, Trinity were 5/254 and eyeing 300. Though a few late wickets slowed momentum, handy lower-order runs from Gideon Quinn-Smith and Pratham Nayak lifted the total to an imposing 7/275.
With ball in hand, Trinity’s bowlers backed up the batters superbly. Early breakthroughs from Seb Fleay and Gideon Quinn-Smith left Guildford reeling, with Fleay striking twice and Quinn-Smith adding another. Miles McColl joined in to make it 4/37, putting Trinity firmly in control.
The middle overs saw tight spells from Sam O’Connor (2/15) and Zane Casson, who kept pressure on with clever variations. Pratham Nayak wrapped things up with 1/24, while economical support came from Riley Misquita (0/11 off 3 overs) and Luke Murdoch (0/17 off 5 overs). Guildford were eventually dismissed for 177.
It was a complete team effort, disciplined batting, sharp fielding, and smart bowling showcasing Trinity’s growing maturity. The victory secures the Katich/Moody Shield for the ninth straight year, keeping their unbeaten run intact as they look ahead with confidence to next week’s fixture.
Year 4 Cricket Carnival
Yesterday, the Year 4 boys played in their final carnival of the year, a cricket carnival against Aquinas. The boys had a wonderful afternoon, putting all their skills to great use. A big thank you to the parents who volunteered their time to assist; as always, your support is greatly appreciated.
As we wrap up the Year 4 carnivals for the year, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all parents who have volunteered at one carnival or another. These events simply would not be possible without your help and enthusiasm.
