Yr 7 Geography - Place and Livability

Our Year 7 students had a fantastic and educational day out on October 30th, for their Geography excursion to Bingara!

To enhance their studies on the topic 'Place and Livability', students explored the town and its surroundings. They got a firsthand look at the natural features around Bingara and completed a detailed field sketch.

The day was not just about scenery; it was also a great opportunity for active learning! Students spent time investigating the factors that influence the liveability for residents in Bingara, applying their classroom knowledge to a real-world setting.

It was a truly valuable and memorable experience for everyone involved!

Year 8 Battleship Challenge

This week in Year 8 Mathematics, students put their theoretical knowledge into practice by engaging in a high-stakes game of Battleship! As part of their unit on Co-ordinate Geometry, this classic game provided a fun, engaging, and competitive way for students to master a fundamental skill: plotting and identifying points and understanding linear relationships.

Year 9 Sydney Excursion: Learning Beyond the Classroom

Last week, our Year 9 students successfully completed their action-packed excursion to Sydney, turning the city into their classroom for five days. After arriving via a smooth train journey, the students immediately plunged into the cultural, historical, and wildlife highlights the city offers. Their itinerary was full: on Tuesday, they explored conservation efforts and admired the Harbour views at Taronga Zoo; Wednesday they had a break on the sand at the iconic Bondi Beach. Thursday was a deep dive into Australian civic life, including reflections at the War Memorial, an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Parliament House guided by Brendan Moylan, and a spectacular farewell view from the Sydney Tower Eye. While enjoying these landmarks, the students were constantly applying essential life skills.

Beyond the sightseeing, this excursion was a masterclass in independence and responsibility. The necessity of utilising Sydney's public transport system required students to read timetables, navigate routes, and coordinate their movements efficiently in the busy center of Sydney.

Yr 10 ADF Presentation

On Thursday 30th October, three members of the Australian Defence Force delivered a careers presentation to our Year 10 students. CPL Rhiannon Clark, CPL Dakota Mace-Seccombe and LS Sarah Horn spoke about their amazing experiences whilst working with the ADF. They talked about the different roles they work in, the places they get to visit (in Australia and overseas), and communities they get to help along the way. We thank Rhiannon, Dakota and Sarah for visiting St. Philomena’s and talking about an exciting career pathway option with our Year 10 students.

Students can download and print their VET certificate as a PDF from Students Online until 30 June the year after they studied the VET course.

A USI must be entered for the student to access and download the VET credential. Students Online is also used by students to view their HSC results.

To do this students log in to https://studentsonline.nesa.nsw.edu.au/go/login/ with their student number and PIN, then go to the Certificates/eRecord section to download their VET Certificate or Statement of Attainment.

For students who studied the VET course in 2025, this will be available until 30 June 2026. Note that 2025 Year 12 students or students who are not continuing at school in 2026 will also lose their access to Students Online on 30 June 2026.
