Year 6-10 PBL: Students Choose to Build a Smarter Garden!

This term, students from Year 6 to Year 10 got to pick their own challenge in the Mentor Pastoral Program, choosing a project based on what they are interested in! One exciting team chose the Irrigation Project. Their big job is to design and build a new watering system for our veggie gardens that saves lots of water and time.

This project is like real-life engineering. To make the system work, the students have had to work together and solve problems every step of the way. They have built prototypes (test versions) and fixed issues they ran into, learning to turn their ideas into a working system. By tackling this challenge, they are learning about sustainability and gaining valuable skills. This clever, water-smart system will be finished and installed in the garden beds in just four weeks!

On the Road to Repair: Year 6-10 Bike Mechanics PBL!

This term, our Year 6 to Year 10 students are putting down the books and picking up the wrenches as part of the Term 4 Mentor Pastoral Program. Students got to choose a Project-Based Learning (PBL) challenge that matched their interests, and one energetic group selected the Bike Repairs Project!

The goal of this practical team is straightforward: to learn how to identify and fix common issues on bicycles, turning them into competent bike mechanics. This isn't just a casual activity—it's a hands-on course in technical skill and real-world problem-solving. Each week, students are working together, engaging in deep collaboration and focused problem-solving as they tackle everything from flat tires and chain adjustments to brake cable replacements. To track their progress and ensure mastery, the team must tick off specific competencies each week, proving they've mastered the necessary skills to earn the title of a competent bike mechanic.
