Out & About

Bridgerton Charity Ball

The demo team who performed at both the Bridgerton Ball and Rosecroft Soiree were Gabby Masterson, Tahlia Husband, Emily Lawlor, Emersyn Doyle and Khloe Doust (along with former GIHS dancers Tahlia O'Brien, Delaney Doyle and Charlotte Campbell).

All the current dance team were involved in creating and teaching a Regency Flash Mob line dance in 4, one hour tutorials to adults attending the Ball which the demo team led on the night. All involved gave so much time and effort in representing the school, and supporting the community, as well as supporting an important cancer charity.

I am so proud of them all.

Year 11 Students Shine at Lions Youth of the Year Competition

On Wednesday 22nd October, four outstanding Year 11 students represented our school in the Lions Youth of the Year Competition — an event that recognises leadership, communication skills, and community involvement among young people.

The competition was a rigorous and multi-stage process, beginning with a formal interview where each student showcased their achievements, goals, and community engagement. This was followed by an impromptu public speaking section, where participants were challenged to share their views on two thought-provoking topics:

  1. How the upcoming social media ban will impact young people.
  2. How rural and remote areas can attract young people to live and work in their communities.

Each student then delivered a prepared speech on a topic of personal interest and significance. The speeches covered a wide range of important issues, including the impacts of discrimination, the growth of women’s sport, the idea that school isn’t for everyone, and the connection between sport and mental health.

All four competitors, Will Lynn, Jayden Macintyre, Azalea Singh, and Ilyssa Newbury, are to be commended for their confidence, insight, and poise throughout every stage of the competition.

A special congratulations goes to Will Lynn, who was named the overall champion, and to Jayden Macintyre, who received the Public Speaking Award for his exceptional delivery and expression.

The school community is incredibly proud of all four students for their hard work, courage, and exemplary representation of our values.

CAPERS Rehearsals

This week, students from Glen Innes High School have been diligently rehearsing for their upcoming performances at Capers in Tamworth. Our talented performers have been featured across a range of disciplines, including featured vocal solos, featured dance artists, dance ensembles, band, and massed dance presentations from Stage 4 and Stages 5/6. The GIHS Rock Band will also take the stage with a dedicated segment showcasing their musical talents.

Performances are scheduled for Friday morning, Friday evening, and Saturday evening.

This event represents a remarkable opportunity for our students to demonstrate their skills and gain valuable performance experience.

Here are a few pictures of the students rehearsing at CAPERS, TRECC this week. More news in next edition.
