Religious Education

YEAR 7

Students are exploring the different covenants God made with his people.  Biblical accounts of the covenants have been researched. Each Covenant expressed God’s complete love for the Jewish people and set in place a sacred agreement between the people and God. The agreements God made with the prophets has helped shape Catholic beliefs, behaviours and attitudes. Students have used the wisdom of the covenants to create poems and artworks.

 

YEAR 8

Students are currently engaged in the new unit Laudato Si - Care for Our Common Home. The unit unpacks the encyclical by Pope Francis leading students into an understanding of the Pope’s environmental and humanitarian vision. Through a holistic approach students will gain a personal and community-based understanding grounded in reality.

 

YEAR 9

Students’ are investigating the institution of Eucharist and how it informs Christians to live out the call to service. Rituals, symbols and the ways in which Jesus reached out to those on the margins have been explored. Key Bible passages will inform learning and inspire the ways in which students can reach out to those on the fringe in their everyday lives.

 

YEAR 10

Year 10 have been exploring Church history and the important historical figures in Christianity including Emperor Constantine and the impact he had in its development.  Major developments and changes in Christianity have been investigated including The Great Schism and The Reformation. Students are developing an understanding of the effect figures such as Martin Luther and King Henry 8th had on Christianity. Students have learnt about various denominations, their similarities and differences. The significance of Ecumenism and interfaith dialogue.

 

YEAR 11 

Studies in Catholic Thought class are currently exploring how the Catholic understanding of the human person informs an understanding of a relationship with God, self and others. Students are contemplating meaning and mystery along with personal and Biblical encounters with God. The Enlightenment and its challenges to Catholic thinking have been studied. Students encounter the most meaningful of questions throughout the unit including what kind of life is worth living?

 

SoR 1 students are exploring Aboriginal Spiritualities and how it is deeply informed by the Dreaming. The Dreaming encompasses kinship, ceremonial life and sacred connection Aboriginal people have with the land. The way in which dispossession has affected Aboriginal Spirituality has also been studied. Students are developing an understanding of the importance of the history and impact of The Land Rights Movement.

 

 

SoR 2 students have completed their study on Aboriginal Spirituality and are currently investigating Religion and Belief Systems in Australia Post 1945. The changing patterns in religious adherence and Australia’s current religious landscape are being researched. Students continue to be engaged and curious about our multi- faith society.
