From The Team

Over the past few weeks, our 5/6 students have been engaging in a range of exciting and challenging learning experiences across all areas of the curriculum. In Maths, we’ve been exploring angles - learning how to identify, measure and classify them in different contexts. Students have shown great persistence when applying their understanding to problem-solving tasks and real-life scenarios.

In Writing, students have been crafting and publishing biographies using Canva. They’ve enjoyed designing creative layouts and showcasing their research and writing skills. The final products look incredible and reflect the effort, pride and individuality of each student.

During Reading, we’ve been strengthening comprehension strategies, focusing on summarising, making inferences, and drawing conclusions from a range of texts. We’ve also launched our new spelling focus on Word Origins, beginning with the prefix auto. Students have explored the meaning of this prefix through listening to podcasts, completing Frayer Charts, word banks and crosswords.

One of the highlights of the term was our Shark Tank Expo. Students confidently presented their innovative prototypes, persuasive pitches, and eye-catching posters to parents, staff and peers. Their creativity and teamwork were on full display, and it was wonderful to see them share their ideas with such enthusiasm. A huge thank you to all the parents, teachers and students who supported the day and helped make it such a success. Your contributions have helped us raise funds for our upcoming Big Day Out and we’re very appreciative!

What We Are Learning

Reminders

  • Homework - Fortnightly homework continues and our expectations on our students remain the same. We are working hard to get our senior school into a good homework routine to support and prepare them for high school.

  • Graduation Photos - If your child did not attend Scoresby PS in their junior school years, could you please send through any school portraits and dress-up day photos to help prepare their graduation video and individual timelines. We can scan hard copy photos if needed.

  • Graduation Lolly Donation - Our Graduation Parent Committee are asking for a bag or two of lollies for donation to be used at the disco lolly bar. If you could send these to school with your child to their classroom teacher, that would be much appreciated.

Scienceworks

On the 23rd of October, the whole school went on an excursion to Scienceworks. We had a great time and learned lots of new things.

We had our snack in the amphitheatre before heading off to Sportsworks, where there was a range of exciting activities. After we went to Sportsworks, we went to Beyond Perception which had a mirror maze and comfy seating, snow machines and other fascinating activities.

After, we went to the Planetarium where we watched two shows. One was about the seasons and the other about where the sun is at different times of day, as well as constellations. Before we headed back to school, we ate whatever remained in our lunch box. When we finished we were back on the bus and arrived at school for the end of the day.

Eliza Shines at Regional Track and Field!

While the rest of Scoresby Primary School were busy exploring Scienceworks on Thursday 23rd October, one very determined student was off representing our school on a much bigger stage!

Eliza M. proudly competed at the Eastern Metro Regional Track & Field Championships in high jump, after being the only student from our entire school to qualify for this prestigious event! What an incredible accomplishment, showcasing not only her athletic talent but also her dedication and school spirit.

We are so proud of you, Eliza! You’ve done Scoresby Primary proud and inspired us all with your amazing achievement!
