Year 4 Term 4 Wrap Up: Stepping Through History and Into the Future
As our final term in Year 4 draws to a close, it’s been a wonderful journey filled with discovery, reflection, and growth. Students have explored Australia’s past, strengthened their voices, and deepened their understanding across all learning areas. Here’s a look at our final chapter together this year:
Adventures in Time
This term, we travelled back to the late 1700s during our History Box incursion, where students stepped into the shoes of those who experienced Australia’s early days of colonisation. Through immersive storytelling and hands-on artefacts, they explored the arrival of the First Fleet, early colonial life, and the diverse perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and settlers. This experience helped students reflect on the causes and lasting consequences of colonisation—on people, culture, and the environment.
We also celebrated Oktoberfest, filling the school with laughter, colour, and games—a true highlight of the term!
Inquiry Explorers
Our Australian History inquiry has taken us on a journey from First Nations life before colonisation to the arrival of the First Fleet, and the moments of first contact that followed. Students have been busy creating lapbooks to showcase their learning, highlighting their understanding of key events and perspectives that have shaped our nation’s story.
Literacy Legends
In Literacy, we’ve been captivated by Tom Appleby: Convict Boy, following Tom’s journey from life in Britain to his experiences on the First Fleet and in early Australia. Students have demonstrated excellent comprehension, empathy, and historical understanding through their discussions and written responses.
We also celebrated our Public Speaking Competition, where the theme “Everyone should try…” inspired incredible speeches filled with confidence, creativity, and conviction. We were truly blown away by the courage and expression shown by all our speakers!
Maths Masters
In Maths, we’ve explored measurement and conversions, delved into number patterns and algebra, and balanced equations like pros! Students have shown great persistence as they strengthened their problem-solving and reasoning skills throughout the term.
Looking Ahead
As we enjoy our final few weeks together in Year 4, we are filled with pride at how much each student has achieved this year—academically, socially, and personally. It has been a joy to see their confidence grow and their curiosity shine.
We wish our students all the best as they take their next big step into Level 5. We know they will continue to thrive, lead, and shine brightly in everything they do. 💫
