Year 2 News
From Kaajal, Year 2 teacher
Literacy
Over the course of the previous week, Year 2 students have been engrossed in exploring various natural phenomena. To enhance their synthesising skills, the students began the week by creating a chart containing their existing knowledge about bioluminescence, rainbows, and the aurora. As the week progressed, they revisited this chart and incorporated any new information they had acquired. In their writing endeavours, students honed their abilities in drafting descriptive narratives about a natural phenomenon of their preference. Their resulting pieces showcased excellent use of vivid and descriptive language.
Other Learning Areas (OLA)
Students were tasked with the challenge of building their own earthquake proof structures using only recycled materials that they had brought in from home. This fun challenge provided opportunities for team building, collaboration and innovation amongst the students. Many groups took inspiration from existing earthquake resistant structures about the world, such as the Taipei 101 in Taipei and the Te Papa museum in New Zealand. The testing involved a Level 1 and a Level 2 ‘earthquake’ (the teacher shaking the table) and if the structure survived the shake, it was considered earthquake resistant! Students had so much fun during this task and did a fantastic job of explaining the concept behind their designs.
