Writing - Snap, Crackle and Pop

We have been learning about presenting multimodal text legibly. To introduce the multimodal element to the students, they have been publishing their writing on Book Creator on the iPads, which allows the students to both type up their writing, taking photos of objects related to their writing, as well as recording themselves reading the writing out loud. Year 1 students have absolutely enjoyed the experience. Furthermore, we have also been looking at Snap, Crackle and Pop, the iconic Australian rice bubble advertisement. Students created their own advertisement on Book Creator, we also made rice crispy treats using rice bubble, butter and marshmallow last week. The students then wrote a procedural text on how to make rice crispy treats, and described their experiences using five senses.

Math

We have continued our learning in measurement. In the past fortnight, the students learnt about capacity and mass. They learnt to use hefting and the balance scale to compare the mass of different objects, then used informal units such as unifix blocks and beans to compare the capacity of different containers. It was the most mind-blowing when the students found out that containers that looks different in sizes can have the same capacity too!
