11VM PDS

The 11VM PDS class have engaged in reading and discussing personal journeys from Big Issues this term.

As part of this, they composed letters addressed to their younger selves.

We're excited to provide a concise overview of the content from their letters to share with the school community in this newsletter.

We hope you enjoy reading them.

Dear younger self, …. Always stand up for yourself and don't let anyone put you down. Always be yourself and never change yourself if you think you’re not “cool” and “good” enough. Your family and friends matter the most! Don’t trust anyone too easy and especially don’t hang out with the wrong people because it won’t take you nowhere in life.

……Enjoy and try to like school while you’re at it. You will regret and miss your younger years of school. Always smile be positive and be kind to everyone. Be yourself don’t try to fit in when that’s not who you are.

……Hello, it's me, your future self. I'm reaching out to offer some guidance on becoming a better person in the years ahead. Right now, we're doing well in football, but we could’ve been great. If you start taking action at your current age, you can achieve something remarkable. Spend time with your friends, engage in activities like kicking a ball around, going for runs, or even consider hitting the gym in the next few years. All this will help you so much to accomplish our goals. Remember, hard work pays off, and during tough times, reflect on how far you've come to reach your current position. Keep striving for greatness and keep respecting your family. Stick with your friends and always smile. Keep working towards your goals and never give up. Don't let anyone's negative words bring you down; keep your head up and disregard them. They hate you because you’re better than them.

……..Hey, it’s your 16-year-old self here, just talking to you an letting you know about things that are going to happen in your life. And giving you some tips on how to be a better man in future. I want to tell you to always have your health and fitness in mind when your younger, it becomes a big thing in your teenage years and will help you out a lot. You’re going to make a lot of mistakes in your time, but I know it’s hard to understand but trust me you learn a lot from your mistakes, and they overall make your stronger and improve you as a person. Your parents are always going to be there for you, for whatever you need, don’t be scared to tell them about anything. You are going to grow up and become a great person.

……Younger me, don't choose a career you're not passionate about. When you're older, find a job that makes you happy.

……Throughout my life I have experienced a lot of different journeys, many of which have been valuable learning experiences that have shaped me. Going through challenging times that brought me down and makes me feel upset, really turns out to be better off for me as I look back at it and learn from it. Reflecting, I now realize the significance of spending quality time with my family, and I regret not having done so more often. When I was young and at home if I was bored, I would go outside and play some sport or play games with my family but growing up I stopped doing that and just spend most of my time on my phone, social media and watching TV.

Hey younger self! My message to you is to live life and not worry about others’ opinions and to stick up for myself. You need to live unapologetically. You are worthy of love and compassion, and you don’t deserve to feel restricted. You deserve love, compassion, and the freedom to be open and make friends. Don't let others' opinions hold you back. Be your true self.

To not overthink every little thing and not let the things people say affect you so much. And stop stress about being late when you know you won't be. Stressing so much will get you more where you were before and will only make your life harder. Just be yourself and have fun.

Never give up no matter what happens.     Stay strong even when times get rough.
