Wellbeing

Workshop

All Year 11 students have now completed the Responsible Gambling workshops titled “Know the Score”.

The workshops were facilitated by Missy and Alisa from Banyule Community Health.

The workshops analysed the potential influences that may shape students’ gambling attitudes and behaviour.

Students viewed, analysed, and discussed a wide variety of media content, including gambling advertisements that highlight the normalisation of gambling.

They learnt about current forms of gambling – such as social casino games, skins betting and loot boxes in order to minimise harm and encourage informed choices.

Students were also presented with gambling statistics and how much money is lost each year in Victoria, Australia, and the City of Whittlesea.

Missy sent an email last week praising the students at Epping Secondary College.

Thanks again for having Alisa and I out over the last few weeks, we both had a great time and were really impressed by the student’s level of interaction and their thoughtfulness when considering gambling harm.

A couple of the survey responses really stood out to me that I thought I’d share below.

Student responses:

“I learned how big the issue is, the amount of money that is lost is way more than what I would have thought”.

Ms. Provided her own question of ‘how people can get addicted to gambling’ she explained the fundamental of addiction is Dopamine”.

Teacher feedback:
