From the Head of Junior School

Mrs Ruth Achurch

Returning fresh from a well-deserved 3-week spring break, our Junior School students were warmly welcomed as they returned to their classrooms, friends, and teachers for an exciting Term 4.

There are so many wonderful teaching and learning opportunities to be experienced and shared this term and if we are not careful the term can be at an end before we know it. Therefore, please take this opportunity to view the School calendar and refer the class teachers’ communications to ensure you are fully informed of the events scheduled for this final academic term.

Year 6 commenced their final Junior School term on a huge high early on Tuesday morning, boarding the coach to Canberra at 7:30am for their 4-day study tour around the Nation’s capital and all things parliamentary. Students are provided the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the National capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education initiative. Pittwater House is most grateful for the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate for this study tour, which keeps the cost of this excursion at a minimum.

In the absence of the Year 6 students, Year 5 will step up and learn about the roles and responsibilities that await them as leaders next year.

This first week was also an exciting opportunity for 35 new students currently in Year 2 to Year 5 who will join the Junior School in 2024. These new students experienced their first orientation opportunity and chance to meet new classmates on Wednesday and Thursday.

Our future Kindergarten and new Year 1 and 2 students for 2024 will join us for their orientation experience in November.

Impressive results were received from the students who chose to participate in the ICAS English. There was 1 High Distinction earned by Annie (J5), 18 Credits and 3 Merits.

And, in the ICAS Mathematics competition there were 6 Distinctions, 9 Credits and 1 Merit Award, with Jackson and Miles (P3), earning the highest marks in the Junior School.

A reminder that Co-curricular Clubs will commence in Week 2.
