Year 7

In year 7 students this term have been exploring the world of ancient Egypt! Whilst developing their source analysis skills students have been looking at the importance of the Nile River, examining class hierarchy and life as a pharaoh, learning about the process of mummification, and the influence of the Gods. 

 

Students have been learning to write using hieroglyphics which helped them to make their own Cartouche's. Students have also made pipe cleaner mummies. Students have researched ancient Egyptian Gods, and have created 'God Cards' stating their responsibilities. 


Year 8

In year 8 students started the term by finished their Medieval Europe unit. They explored the golden ages of the Ottoman Empire, and the dark ages of Medieval Europe. During which, students created timelines (as seen by 8E below), researched the black death and witch trials, and looked at castles and knights. 

 

After this, students have been learning about the development of Wollert in their unit Changing Nations. They have looked at the urbanisation of their community and how cities develop and change over time.

 


Year 9

In year 9 students have been investigating WW1. They began by looking at how it started and the alliances involved. Then, they begin to explore the development of weaponry, common injuries and illnesses during war, Gallipoli and Australia's involvement in WW1, trench warfare, and the process of enlistment. 

 

Some of our students have made dioramas of trenches as seen by 9I below.

  

We wish our year 9s the best of luck as they do their first Humanities exam in week 10!

 


Year 10

In year 10 students have been conducting an inquiry into the civil rights movements occurring in both Australia and the United States of America from the 1900s until approximately 1970. They have learnt about significant moments involved in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples journey for rights and freedoms including the freedom rides, 1967 referendum, and Eddie 'Koiki' Mabo's fight for land rights. Students also looked at significant figures like Emmett Till, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King Jr and their influence on the civil rights movement in the USA.

 

In week 8 students will do their Humanities exam, and then begin an introduction into year 11.
